The Kudumbashree program is a poverty alleviation and women’s empowerment program implemented by the Government of Kerala, a state in southern India. At the grassroots level, there are neighborhood groups comprising of 20-45 women from poor households who come together to address their common issues. These neighborhood groups come together to form area development societies at the ward level. The ward-level area development societies, in turn, form community development societies at the panchayat (local self-government) level. The community development societies act as the apex body and take up development activities in the panchayats.
